Come the start of January/February and July/August the ad exec and the fashionista inside of me meet up and frolic throughout the world of fashion advertisements. It's really quite a jovial scene. Trust. Anyways, these are some of my favorites thus far this season:

Celine - by Juergen Teller

Like, seriously?!?!?! OBSESSED. Phoebe, your clothes are amazing. Teller's skills work so well here. I love that the clothes are showcased. Love love love. There's really nothing else to say. It speaks for itself.

Fendi - Anja Rubik by Lagerfeld

Such a pretty ad for such an awesome collection. For the past two seasons I've really been in love with what's happening at Fendi. Karl and Silvia sent out an amazing F/W collection, in my opinion, last season and I have to say, I really think spring blows it away. This campaign perfectly fits my feelings about the collection. And I'm loving being able to see the unfinished hems against Anja's leg. Dying.

Prada - Rasa Zukauskaite by Meisel

Simple, yet eye-catching and shows off the product at the same time. Plus, I loved the runway styling so it helps they stuck with that in the campaign as well.

Yves Saint Laurent - Natalia Vodianova by Inez & Vindooh

I like that this campaign is somewhat of a departure from past YSL advertisements. The use of red is something I particularly enjoy but I also like the simplistic edge to it. The one shot of Natalia from behind is simply phenomenal

Lanvin - Jamie Bochert by Meisel

Another excellent campaign for Meisel and Jamie (she's also in the Marc Jacobs ads). Though I don't find the campaign as compelling as last season's, I definitely think that it is fresh and something that takes Lanvin in a different direction. Plus anything Alber has his hands in usually garners my support. Love.

all photos courtesy thefashionspot.com

-justin

see ya 00s!

Well I've officially lived through an entire decade! Ah, the 00's. There are truly no words. But with the Holiday season screeching to an end (thank God), I have vowed to dedicate my free time to pulling my weight in our new endeavor. So with that, I bring you:

GROUNDS FOR TERMINATION

Lindsay Lohan, Artistic Advisor at Ungaro

I’m truly not sure how much I need to write about this, I think it pretty much speaks for itself, but I am going to offer up my opinion none-the-less. While the S/S collection had a few pieces that didn’t completely make my skin crawl (the opening fuchsia dress being one of them – although I’m pretty sure I see the exact same one at Bebe every season), I am still boggled by Mounir Moufarrige’s decision to appoint Lindsay to such a position. (CEO Moufarrige has since resigned, take that for what you will.) Now whether the she holds this position in name only, or truly is an integral part of each collection, why would anyone want their name in print next to hers in the first place? Sure it is drumming up publicity, but certainly not the good kind, seeing as both Neiman Marcus and Net-a-Porter have dropped the line for S/S 2010. Way to go Linds.

Rachel Zoe

I am not Rachel, Justin is not Brad. We’d prefer to be compared to stylists with ACTUAL talent, not just a long list of pseudo-anorexic celebrity clients.

BUT I’M LOVING….

Justin’s new appreciation for Alexander Wang

It took him long enough.

Ke$ha

Before you start laughing, or vow to never pay credence to my posts again, just hear me out. Aside from the fact that her latest single, Tik Tok, is topping the charts around the world, this girl really has something good going on. And not in that, she will forever be successful sort of way, but in a trash-tastic, “I’m such a mess that you have to stop and stare”, car crash sort of way. Except this disaster, specifically her latest music video for Tik Tok, has me seriously contemplating the purchase of a gold sequin jacket to pair with the completely destroyed white denim I already own. And that is something a 10 car pile up has yet to do.

Temperley London, Pre-Fall

A designer that does not normally catch my attention, Alice Temperley’s Pre-Fall collection has piqued my interest as she evolves her signature style, ever so slightly, to capture the young, edgy, contemporary audience so heavily influencing high fashion today. While some looks still seem very dated (I’ll pass on the silver gladiator sandals), I can’t help but be drawn to her use of black lace, edgier layering and party dress silhouettes. If she keeps this up, she can easily go the, albeit opposite, way of Alexander Wang: keeping your core customer happy, while expanding into different genres, specifically the current It crowd led by fashion-forward models and internationally recognized bloggers. I, for one, can’t wait to see her upcoming second line, “Alice”, inspired by, you guessed it, Alice Dellal.

xxoo

Steph

oh my Alex White!

Run of the Show - W January 2010

Styling by: Alex White

Photography by: Craig McDean

Alex White is so on top of it with her styling. I saw them and freaked out, tried to convince myself I didn't need them, and of course, ended up deciding that I did in fact need them and to pass up on an offer like that would be smiting the shopping gods. I checked to make sure they had my size and they did so clearly this was fate. I had homework to do so I figured I'd buy them like maximum 60 minutes later. WHAT A MISTAKE. When I went back to buy them there was only a size 9 left. I wanted to die. The saddest part of this whole thing was that I actually considered squeezing my size 11 feet into them. I'm keeping this brief because I don't think my heart has healed enough yet to talk about it.

My tardiness.

This post was supposed to be live and ready to go a week and a half ago. Finals and work had me extra busy so unfortunately the blog had to take the back burner. With break beginning, however, I'm definitely going to devote as much time as possible to GFT.

But I'm loving:

The Pre-Fall Shows

It's that time of the fashion year again, we've reached the middle of the S/S-F/W gap and that means it's time for the Pre-Fall collections. I've always enjoyed the PF collections. They're a nice, wearable breather between the fashion seasons.

From what I've seen so far this season, I'm absolutely loving Diane Von Furstenberg and Alexander Wang. Diane's collection is, in my opinion, one of her best in recent seasons. With British It girl Stella Tennant as her inspiration, Diane showed effortlessly cool looks that exuded youth and a certain je ne sais quoi. While the collection was a bit scattered, Diane hit all the right notes including a fabulous metallic short (pictured above) and numerous capelets belted over effervescent minis.

On the opposite side of the fashion spectrum is Alexander Wang's fantastically minimalist collection. Wang's collection was an impressive evolution from his usual twenty something power babe aesthetic. While his clientele will love the oversized, cropped sweaters and sleek structured jackets I think Wang will attract a new woman to his brand with his masterfully constructed trousers and more work-friendly tops (save for of course the few sheer looks shown). Reviews on the rest of the shows to come later.

Suddenly Last Summer

He was a snob about personal charm in people, he insisted upon good looks in people around him, and, oh, he had a perfect little court of young and beautiful people around him always, wherever he was.

- Violet Venable

We're watching Suddenly, Last Summer in my Forbidden Knowledge class and it reminded me how absolutely fantastic the movie (and play, oh hayyy Tennessee Williams!) was. Hepburn and Taylor are equally phenomenal as they are crazy as Violet Venable and Catherine Holly respectively. The world Williams and Mankiewicz create is like nothing else.
